The AI Innovation Index
A first-of-its-kind initiative to measure and spotlight AI innovation in PreK-12 school systems

AI for Equity is working in partnership with these outstanding organizations to scale and learn from school system participation in the AI Innovation Index.
What Are We Solving For?
We believe school system C-suites have a responsibility to set the conditions for AI innovation – towards greater staff efficacy and empowerment and new horizons of student AI literacy and agency. But school systems need guidance, meaningful data, and the opportunity to learn with and from each other.
With this in mind, it's imperative that the ecosystem supporting schools nationally address three challenges: 1) a lack of aligned roadmaps and metrics across school systems, 2) the absence of high-quality system-level AI data, and 3) the reliance on anecdotal vs data-driven evidence to spotlight exemplary practice.
What is The AI Innovation Index?
Informed by two years of collaboration with innovative school systems across the country, the AI Innovation Index sets forth visions for student AI agency, staff AI empowerment, and the underlying C-suite leadership actions necessary to cultivate this student agency and staff empowerment.
In participating schools systems, twice per year C-suite leaders report progress against a set of key leadership actions while staff and students complete 30-second pulse surveys, with no student PII collected. C-suite leaders and AI task forces then gain access to a wide range of analytics and resources to support data-driven AI innovation progress-monitoring and planning.
